Club Policies
Code of Conduct
The purpose of the Code of Conduct and Ethics is to ensure a safe and positive environment within SSC programs, activities and events, by making all individuals aware that there is an expectation at all times of appropriate behavior consistent with the values of SSC. We are committed to provide an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect. Individuals are expected to conduct themselves with fairness, integrity, open communication and mutual respect.
This code applies to conduct that may arise during the course of SSC activities and events, including but not limited, competitions, practices, training camps, travel and any meeting of or on behalf of SSC. Any breach of this code will be subject to disciplinary action and possible sanction.
“Individuals” – all categories of Membership within the SSC bylaws, as well as all individuals, engaged in activities with SSC, including but not limited to, clubs, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, managers, administrator, directors and officers of SSC, spectator of SSC events and Parents of SSC Members.
All individuals who participate or represent the Sackville Swim club must read and agree to the following terms:
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate respect toward every individuals regardless of their body type, physical characteristics, athletic ability, gender, ancestry, color, ethnic or racial origin, nationality, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, religion, religious belief, political belief, disability or economic static;
- Demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship, sport leadership and ethical conduct at all time;
- Treat individuals fairly and reasonably;
- Follow and respect the rules of swimming;
- Respect the property of others and not willfully cause damage.
- Promote swimming in the most constructive and positive manner possible
- Refrain from any behavior that constitutes harassment, where harassment is define as comment or conduct directed towards an individual or group, which is offensive, abusive, racist, sexist, degrading or malicious. Types of behavior that constitutes harassment include, but are not limited to:
- Written or verbal abuse, threats or outburst;
- The display of visual materials which is offensive or which one ought to know if offensive in the circumstances;
- Unwelcome remarks, jokes, comment, innuendos or taunts;
- Leering or other suggestive or obscene gestures;
- Condescending or patronizing behavior which intended, endanger a person’s safety or negatively affect performance;
- Any form of hazing;
- Unwanted physical contact including, but not limited to, touching, petting, pinching or kissing;
- Physical or sexual assault;
- Behavior such as those described above that are not directed towards a specific individual or group but have the same effect of creating a negative or hostile environment; or
- Retaliation or threats or relation against an individual who reports harassment to SSC.
Refrain from any behavior that constitutes sexual harassment where sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual comments and sexual advances, request for sexual favors, or conduct of sexual nature. Types of behavior that constitute sexual harassment include, but are not limited to:
- Sexist jokes;
- Display of sexually offensive material;
- Sexually degrading words used to describe a person;
- Inquiries or comments about a person’s sex life;
- Unwelcome sexual flirtations, advances, propositions, request or invitations;
- Persistent unwanted contact; and
- Sexual assault.
Refrain from the non-medical use of drugs or the use of performance-enhancing drugs or methods. SSC adopts and adheres to the Canadian Anti-Dope Program. Any individual who breach the Canadian Anti-Doping Program shall be subject to disciplinary action or possible sanction whether imposed by SSC or any other sport organization.
Refrain from use of power or authority in attempts to coerce another person to engage in inappropriate activities.
Follow and adhere to the bylaws, policies, procedures, rules and regulation of Swimming Canada\ Swimming New Brunswick and Sackville Swim Club.
Board Members, Committee Members and Coaching Staff
- Respect the rights and worth of all persons with whom they engaged on behalf of SSC;
- Be responsible for the welfare of SSC functioning primarily as a member of the board of Directors and\ committee(s) of SSC,
- Conduct oneself openly, professionally, lawfully in food faith in the best interest of SSC.
- Be fair, equitable, considerate and honest in all dealing with others;
- Respect the confidentiality to issues of sensitive nature;
- Ensure that all members opinions can be express. That they will be given due consideration and weights;
- Commit the time to attends meeting;
- Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all SSC governance document including, but not limited to, the following documents; SSC Bylaws, SSC policies and procedures, Roles and responsibility of volunteer Board Members, Coaches and Members.
- Meet the highest standards of integrity and suitability but not limited to such considerations establish by SSC Screening procedure (Police Checks for SSC Board and Staff).
Sackville Swim Club
- Deliver our services in compliance with the By-laws, policies, rules, regulation and procedures of Swim New Brunswick.
- Ensure all athletes and coaches participating in sanctioned competition are registered Members, in good standing, of SSC and Swim New Brunswick.
- Ensure that all SSC coaches and swim instructor are accredited by one of the following association: NCCP, AWSI, WSI, LSI, BC and NLS.
- Operate an ethical foundation including, but not limited, ensure all participants are properly registered with the club.
Officials
- Accept an assignment to officiate at meet only in one intends to honour that commitment. If, for any reason, one is unable to attend, let the person in charge of official know as soon as possible,
- Be fair and objective;
- Avoid situation for which a conflict of interest may arise;
- Have a positive attitude when going to work at competition, time trial and swim meet;
- Be as impartial, unobtrusive and inconspicuous as possible. Official do not coach or cheer while working. Your role is to assist by providing adequate technical supervision for the met.
- Respect the final decision of the referee- he or she has the right to overturn your decision; and,
- Do not lecture a coach or debate disqualification with a swimmer while working the deck. Remain composed and professional at all times. Refer any questions or problems that come your way to the referee.
